What is car detailing?
Detailing your car is analogous to giving your house a good spring cleaning.
Regular washing and vacuuming of your car is a good idea for the same reasons that it makes sense to keep your house clean. Just like your house, though, regular vacuuming and dusting needs to be augmented with an occasional spring cleaning to remove the dirt under the rugs and the cobwebs from the corners. Needless to say, the need for detailing will vary with the car’s use. A minivan with three kids in it all the time is a different situation from the weekend sports car. Please read below for more about the unsurpassed detailing services available at Westport Wash & Wax.
The Best Professional Detailing Services Anywhere!
Complete Detailing includes both the interior and the exterior of the vehicle. First, the interior is vacuumed and the exterior is washed. In the detail bay, discrete marks are removed from the exterior surface and the vehicle is waxed and hand rubbed, wheels are cleaned, tires and exterior trim are dressed as appropriate. On the interior, all seats, door panels, carpets and consoles are cleaned. Stains are removed from carpets and seats whenever possible. All seats are moved (or removed if possible) for cleaning and areas under fixed seats are air cleaned to remove dirt and crumbs. All leather and vinyl/plastic surfaces are conditioned as appropriate. Carpet mats and rubber mats are cleaned. Each vehicle is inspected by a manager before delivery to the customer.
Additional Services
Clay Cleaning
Clay Cleaning may be necessary when vehicles have dirt and grit stuck to the exterior painted surfaces of the car. If a car’s paint does not feel smooth after washing, it should be clay cleaned prior to waxing. This entails spraying the whole car with a lubricating wax and rubbing down the painted surfaces with a patented clay-based compound. This strips the dirt and grit from the clear coat without harm to the car’s finish. After clay cleaning, the car is ready for polishing or waxing.
Glaze Polishing
Glaze Polishing is recommended to remove scuffing and abrasions and to make the vehicle’s clear coat shine to its fullest potential. Especially on older cars and darker colors, power glazing polishes the clear coat and can make a big difference in how the surface reflects light. As a general rule, the smoother and cleaner the car’s surface, the better it will reflect light and the shinier the car.
Compounding
Compounding is performed with a machine to remove heavier scuffs and scratches. The particular method of compounding depends on the nature of the scratches, brand of car, its color and other factors. Compounding should be performed only as necessary as it can wear through the car’s clear coat if done too frequently. Compounding will improve, but not remove, deeper scratches where the paint/clear coat has been damaged too deeply.
Other Services may be necessary if a car has been parked under trees, if it has pine sap on it, leaf or berry marks, concrete residues or other unusual contaminants. Such services are billed on the basis of the time required.
NOTE: Base detail prices are for vehicles in reasonable condition. Additional charges may apply for heavily soiled vehicles, vehicles which have sap or other contaminants on the surface, or for additional services, unusual conditions or requests. These charges are at the manager’s discretion. We do not steam clean engines and we do only limited cleaning of interior headliners as they do not clean well in general. Of course, we cannot guarantee removal of all scratches, marks and stains.
